Follow ancient stories across the UNESCO‑listed Blue Mountains National Park on a day shaped by culture, nature, sweeping lookouts and native wildlife. This immersive full‑day journey traces the landscapes behind Aboriginal Songlines, revealing how Country, story, and deep time intertwine across cliffs, valleys, and forested plateaus. From the sandstone ledges above Katoomba Falls to quiet viewpoints overlooking the Jamison and Grose Valleys, the morning unfolds as a gentle introduction to the region’s cultural heartbeat. Here, the famed blue haze rising from the eucalypt forests becomes more than a natural phenomenon — it becomes a thread connecting past and present, enriched by respectful interpretation that deepens your sense of place. As the day continues, pause in a charming mountain village for a lunch break, and later in the afternoon meet native wildlife in a natural‑habitat setting, closing the day with the option to return to Sydney by scenic river cruise.
Begin with an early departure from Sydney, slipping out of the city before the morning traffic and reaching the mountains ahead of the crowds. Crossing the ANZAC Bridge, the journey traces the Parramatta River past Sydney Olympic Park before the urban landscape gives way to the wide skies and open spaces of the west. As the road climbs toward the Great Dividing Range, the air cools, the scenery shifts, and the first hints of the Blue Mountains’ vast sandstone plateau appear on the horizon — a gentle prelude to the landscapes that await.
Enjoy vast views from the top lookout or choose to take the short but steep walk to Princess Rock Lookout to marvel at the waterfall as it plunges 187 metres to the valley floor. Fit walkers can continue along the under‑cliff track via Fletchers Lookout to Wentworth Falls where Jamison Creek cascades into a shallow pool to one side and the magnificent Jamison Valley opens out on the other.
There’s no easier way to enjoy the iconic views of the Three Sisters rising above the valley floor than with the Scenic World Unlimited Discovery Pass. Hear the creation story of the rock formation and learn about the Aboriginal connection to ancestors’ land. Descend into the Jamison Valley aboard the world’s steepest railway. Wander kilometres of raised boardwalks through the temperate rainforest, spotting lyrebirds and ancient tree ferns. Ride the Cableway to glide past the sandstone escarpment and Orphan Rock and complete the experience with a ride on the iconic glass‑bottom Skyway, offering views of the tumbling Katoomba Falls.
Step into a leafy bushland sanctuary and meet some of Australia’s most fascinating native animals. Wander past enclosures home to wombats, Tasmanian devils, dingoes, reptiles, and a variety of bird species. Enter the koala habitat for an intimate encounter and spend time observing kangaroos and wallabies as they roam freely in their open environment — a relaxed and memorable wildlife experience.
Choose to end your day with a scenic 55‑minute ferry journey along the Parramatta River, drift beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge and past the Sydney Opera House before arriving at Circular Quay. From here, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the waterfront precinct as you make your own way back to your accommodation Current page. If preferred, you may skip the ferry and return directly to your hotel by private vehicle.

Had a great day exploring Sydney with Mark. We had a limited amount of time, so Mark was very helpful tailoring an itinerary to our interests. Plus, it was Australia Day and raining outside, so Mark made every effort to accommodate the road blockages and keeping us dry while still seeing and learning about all the sites! It takes an intimate knowledge and familiarity with a city to put together such a great day on the fly! I’d highly recommend touring Sydney with Mark, as his knowledge, experience and passion are apparent at every step of the day and makes for a very fun, entertaining and knowledge away to explore a city!

Mark took a family of three adults around for the day and it was a pleasure. We were picked up at our hotel promptly when scheduled and drove to the blue mountains in the comfort of his van, where we spent a wonderful morning at featherdale with the kangaroos. We did the typical tourist stops at scenic world which was a bit touristy but nonetheless something we wanted to see. then we drove closer to three sister rock formations and got another scenic look and even a chance to stand under the formation. Mark was a pleasure to be with all day and we couldn’t have done it without a car. He suggested a delicious little place for a quick lunch too. I highly recommend a tour with Mark.

Mark, I think I’ve expressed to you how appreciative I am that you were our Tour Director in Australia. I realize how much hard work you did to keep things running smoothly. All the members of the group appreciated the special helpful things you did for them. For me, it was especially that fabulous last day tour. Your personality is special and great for a tour director. Take care and come visit us in the US one day. Sincerely,
Jean W
