Stunning landscape of Southern Highlands, mysterious ephemeral Lake George, and nation’s bush capital Canberra, a significant meeting point of worldclass art, museums, politics, and diplomacy.
Depart Sydney early in the morning and head southwest for the three hours scenic drive through Southern Highlands. Passing several townships and pastures keep an eye on the grassy inclines to spot wild kangaroos or wallabies. After brief refreshment break continue towards the New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory border.
Stop for a picture of the mysterious Lake George, an ephemeral water body that fills and empties of its own volition. One of the most studied lakes in Australia inspiring scientists, artists, birdwatchers, and historians. It can be full of water but there are times when the dry lakebed is used for grazing.
Looking from Mount Ainslie you can instantly grasp geometric features of the city designer Walter Burley Griffin after whom the man-made lake carries its name. Within the cordon of hill is the triangle formed by three significant points, the Australian War Memorial, Parliament House, and commercial Civic Centre.
Bringing together a world-class museum, a shrine, and an extensive archive, AWM tells the stories of men and women who have served, and continue to serve Australian nation in war, conflict, and operations. Explore remarkable exhibitions, artwork, and large technology objects at your own peace. Please note that timed ticket is required to enter and may not be available for last minute tour reservations.
Postmodern structure which houses 6,600 square metres of exhibition space is composed of several individual spaces pieced together like a jigsaw puzzle, forming a semicircle around the Garden of Australian Dreams. Browse through the collections linked to key moments, people and places in Australian history and culture.
Explore Canberra’s centre business district dominated by two identical malls designed in 1920s and named after timeless rivals – Sydney Building and Melbourne Building. Take a stroll along the Garema Place and City Walk to pick one of many eateries for freshly cooked meal (lunch at own expense).
Canberra hosts 110 diplomatic missions from around the world. Take a leisurely drive through the exclusive suburb of Yarralumla to view impressive traditional or modern architecture of embassies and high commissions.
The design of the Capital Hill was selected from 329 entries in an international competition and officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1988. Discover the symbolism and craftsmanship of the Parliament House from towering flagpole to the Great Hall Tapestry, the architecture, the chambers of the Senate and House of Representatives, art, history, and events.
As Australia’s first inland city and fine wool capital, Goulburn is a proud historic town combining grand heritage and country charm. Standing on Goulburn’s fringe is the Big Merino. Take the opportunity to refresh and snap some pictures of one of Australia’s iconic “big things” before continuing to Sydney.

Mark took a family of three adults around for the day and it was a pleasure. We were picked up at our hotel promptly when scheduled and drove to the blue mountains in the comfort of his van, where we spent a wonderful morning at featherdale with the kangaroos. We did the typical tourist stops at scenic world which was a bit touristy but nonetheless something we wanted to see. then we drove closer to three sister rock formations and got another scenic look and even a chance to stand under the formation. Mark was a pleasure to be with all day and we couldn’t have done it without a car. He suggested a delicious little place for a quick lunch too. I highly recommend a tour with Mark.
